Located where the River of Tears empties into the Maritanis, this wetland has a dangerous magical influence on those who find themselves within the swamp.
The origin of the Swamp is the subject of many a legend and song, but it is said that only the gods themselves truly know what occurred there and why the land is cursed.
The Effects of the SwampEdit
Drinking water or eating vegetation from the swamp causes minor memory loss even when water and vegetation is harvested and taken far from the swamp itself.
Prolonged exposure to the wetland causes disorientation. Many a poor soul has found themselves in the wetland, losing themselves more and more with each passing moment. Remaining within the Forgotten Swamp for too long could cause complete amnesia from which there is no known cure, magical or otherwise.
The wetland is a common place for criminals to be punished or for victims to be bound and abandoned. Even very few magical creatures are immune to its effects.
The Forgotten Swamp began as a natural development of the environments around it, as land fed into the ocean. The vegetation began to warp as an effect of the Green Man's wrath shortly after the Great War ended. The area became his poison garden where he cultivated all manner of dangerous flora that did not belong elsewhere in Ga'leah. From tiny apples that caused death with one bite to flowers that caused severe allergic reactions upon sniffing them, the imagination can run wild with all manner of fatalities that can occur simply by walking through the wetland.
Certain individuals and animals have been granted an immunity or partial tolerance to the harshness of this landscape, however, for the Swamp guards secrets best left forgotten.
